BOLZANO. Armed robbery yesterday morning, around 9.45, in the central branch of the Cassa di Risparmio di Ortisei. Two criminals with distorted faces, wearing a wig and holding a machine gun, broke into the credit institution. The loot is modest, just over 2 thousand euros of “owl banknotes” (usually in denominations of 50), easily traceable.
As per the procedure of the South Tyrolean credit institution, the staff did not resist and the cashier handed over the money.
The gang, which is believed to be from Triveneto, arrived with one Gray Mercedes stolen a Pordenone.
Then, after abandoning the first vehicle near the Hotel Diamant in Santa Cristina (2.5 km from the bank), she gave herself escaping in a clean car. For several hours the police searched for a white Fiat.
The carabinieri helicopter took off from Bolzano and to try to intercept the criminals, arrangements were made for dozens of checkpoints up to Bolzano both along the main road but also at the entrance to the A22, starting from the Chiusa toll booth.
Even at the border, for a few hours, the exit toll booths were reduced to two in order to be able to control every car heading north. Furthermore, it cannot be ruled out that the gang – which could have a local baseman – took refuge in the area.
