Covid-19 is no longer an infectious disease with an A status, writes Health Minister Ernst Kuipers to the House of Representatives. The scaling down means that doctors and, for example, laboratories no longer have to report positive tests to the municipal health services (GGDs). However, the monitoring of the virus will continue, for example through research in the sewage water. The government can then take swift action if necessary.

With his decision, Kuipers follows the RIVM, which had previously advised that the A status for Covid-19 be dropped. Incidentally, general corona advice remains intact, such as staying at home if you are ill and consulting with the employer in the event of minor complaints to be able to work from home. According to the minister, this is necessary to prevent the spread of the virus as much as possible. The respiratory virus can still cause serious health problems, especially in vulnerable people such as the elderly.

In the spring, all the latest corona advice and rules expired. This way you no longer have to do a (self) test in case of complaints. If you do have corona, you no longer have to go into isolation. Some basic advice does remain in effect, such as coughing and sneezing into your elbow, washing your hands regularly and ensuring sufficient fresh air.

The developments of the virus, which caused a pandemic for more than two years, are also being tracked on the so-called corona dashboard. The funding for the GGDs for corona activities will also change now that the virus no longer has the A status.
