Speaking on this occasion, the Moroccan Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Rachad Bouhlal, recalled that the Kingdom was the first African country to launch a national vaccination campaign in January 2021 and that to date more than 8 million people, including foreign residents, have received the first dose of the vaccine against the virus.

The Moroccan diplomat also recalled that the Kingdom has always expressed its willingness to share its experience with African countries in terms of organizing and planning possible vaccination campaigns.

He indicated that Morocco, which has shown a great sense of solidarity towards African countries affected by the pandemic, dispatched last June, on the High Instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, emergency medical aid to around twenty African countries in support of their efforts to fight against covid-19.

Thanks to the Sovereign’s clear-sighted vision, the Kingdom has undertaken, from the beginning of this crisis, a proactive and united strategy to face its repercussions on the health, economic and social levels, stressed Mr. Bouhlal, recalling the establishment of the Special Fund for the management of the Covid-19 pandemic to cover expenses dedicated to strengthening the medical system, supporting the national economy and poor households, as well as to deal with the shocks induced by the pandemic.

He also highlighted the efficiency of the Moroccan industrial sector, which was able to quickly adapt to urgent needs, both on the Moroccan and international markets, particularly in terms of medical equipment.

Speaking on the same occasion, the Assistant to the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Katsuhiko Takahashi, praised Morocco’s management of the pandemic crisis, which was crowned by the success of the national vaccination campaign. He also recalled that as part of its support to Morocco to deal with Covid-19, Japan had granted the Kingdom, in December 2020, a loan of 200 million dollars on preferential terms.
