Covid also slows down births: in 2020 700 children were born – time.news

No birth boom in the year of the pandemic. At least so far. The data from the Registry office of the Municipality of time.news confirm this: the lockdown and forced closure at home do not favor the growth of families, but rather have had an inverse effect.

In the Adriatic capital from 1 March 2020 to 28 March 2021, so from when for the first time there was talk of coronavirus in Abruzzo until today, there have been just 755 new births. A figure almost in line with the national average which sees a dizzying emptying of the delivery rooms. Thanks to economic uncertainty and fear for the future, the Covid effect on demographics records a reduction in births during 2020, compared to the previous two years in which slight increases were recorded.

Looking at the 2020 data, it emerges that births from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020 have suffered a slight decrease, reaching 700 total, divided between 369 boys and 331 girls.
