Covid crisis: donations from the French have been well used, welcomes the Court of Auditors

by time news

Protective equipment, tablets in nursing homes, “well-being spaces” in hospitals… The approximately 200 million euros collected in a few months from the French by five philanthropic organizations to deal with the Covid crisis could “be deployed quickly, “said the Court of Auditors on Monday. More than half was used to support patients and caregivers, the rest was used for medical research and helping vulnerable people.

Empowered to control not only “public money”, but also “public money”, the Court explains that it conducted an investigation into the use of donations collected, during the Covid epidemic, by the French Red Cross, the Fondation de France, the Pasteur Institute, the AP-HP Foundation, and the Hospitals Foundation. The generosity of the French was particularly marked during this period: the Fondation des Hôpitaux thus multiplied its collection by nine between 2019 and 2020, and the Fondation de l’AP-HP (Paris public hospitals) by 11.

In addition to money, individuals and companies have offered food products, microwave ovens for hospital rest rooms or even sophrology sessions for caregivers.

And with the money raised, the organizations have funded research projects, medical equipment, meal trays for caregivers, or tablets to facilitate communication between nursing home residents and their families.

The projects financed were “in accordance with the messages of calls for donations”, estimate the Wise Men, who however formulate some caveats, pointing out some irregular accounting entries or noting that “information to donors deserves to be improved” on the use of their money.
