Covid, in Sydney since Monday military in the streets to enforce lockdown

by time news

Hundreds of soldiers will be deployed in Sydney, Australia, to help law enforcement enforce the lockdown imposed following the spread of the Delta variant which has caused nearly 3,000 cases and 9 deaths since June.

As reported by the ‘BBC’, the soldiers of the Australian Defense Force will be trained over the weekend and will join the patrols of the security forces on Monday. The use of the military is causing debate in Australia, where many consider the measure exaggerated.

The lockdown – in effect at least until August 28 – has not stopped the infections so far. Health authorities today registered 170 new cases in the country’s largest city.
