The United States and France have recorded the maximum number of new cases of coronavirus infection per day since the beginning of the pandemic. According to the US Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of December 27, it exceeded 440 thousand. Reuters on Wednesday, December 29, reported that in the United States of America, due to the rapid spread of the omicron variant, the average weekly infection rate has reached 258,312 cases. Prior to that, the maximum was recorded almost a year ago – on January 8 (250 141 cases).

According to the Worldometer portal, since the beginning of the epidemic, the number of detected infections in the United States has reached 54,148,544, and 842,161 people have died with a diagnosis of covid.

The US has reduced the quarantine period for asymptomatic infected

At this stage, the omicron mutation is dominant in the United States, doctors talk about it in 60% of all detected cases.

However, in a number of regions, CDC experts have halved the quarantine period for asymptomatic infected due to a shortage of medical personnel. Now you can get out of it in five days, previously the term reached 10.

French Ministry of Health: Two new infected are detected every second

Meanwhile, in France, the Minister of Social Affairs and Health Olivier Veran told lawmakers that over the past 24 hours, about 208 thousand new infections have been registered. This is the national and European maximum. According to Veran, in the country as a whole, every second two people are found infected with a new type of virus.

According to the Worldometer portal, in France, the beginning of the epidemic, the total number of infected people reached 9,326,258, deaths from COVID-19 amounted to 123,188.

Paris tightens restrictions

Earlier it became known that due to the spread of the omicron version, the French authorities are tightening measures to combat SARS-CoV-2. From January 3, the number of participants in public events in the premises should not exceed 2,000 people, and events in open spaces – 5,000 people, Prime Minister Jean Casteks said on December 27. This order will last for a minimum of three weeks.

French employers have been ordered to ensure that employees are able to work from home at least three days a week. As part of the fight against infection, authorities have prohibited the sale and acceptance of food and drinks on long-distance public transport, as well as in cinemas. The wearing of protective masks will become mandatory in city centers, Kasteks said. He added that there would be no curfew.

At the same time, schools will reopen to students on January 3, the prime minister assured.
