“Covid is still there,” but “we are not in a period of explosion or vigorous return” of the disease, Frédéric Valletoux assured the radio Franceinfo.

“At the end of May, beginning of June, we registered a slight peak, which has tended to decrease since the beginning of June” without the virus disappearing, commented the Minister Delegate for Health.

Athletes testing positive for Covid-19

Although he stressed that there is no high peak in cases, there are athletes who have tested positive for Covid-19 since their arrival in France.

“With 10,500 athletes present at the Olympic Games, we knew without a doubt that there was no such thing as zero risk,” said Frédéric Valletoux, adding that he would continue to monitor the situation “very closely.”

On the other hand, the minister ruled out the return of masks in sports venues for the time being.

“It will be up to the Organizing Committee to decide on a venue-by-venue basis. […] I’m not saying that this is a ‘no’ for 15 days, but as of today there are no strong warning signs,” he added.
