The protection of the anti covid vaccine drops after 6 months, 55% from infections and 82% from severe forms. To explain it is the Higher Institute of Health, in the latest weekly report on the trend of Covid-19 in Italy. “After 6 months from the completion of the vaccination cycle, the effectiveness drops from 79% to 55% in preventing any symptomatic or asymptomatic diagnosis of Covid-19 compared to the unvaccinated “, writes the ISS providing the data.
Even half a year after immunization remains “high”, however reducing, “vaccination efficacy in preventing cases of severe disease: for vaccinated with a complete cycle for less than 6 months it is equal to 95% compared to unvaccinated turns out equal to 82% for those vaccinated with a full course for more than 6 months compared to non-vaccinated ones“.
TERAPIE INTENSIVE
In a month, from 8 October to 7 November, underlines the ISS in the report, 424 unvaccinated were hospitalized in intensive care for Covid out of a reference population of almost 8 million (equal to the people who as of 30 October were not immunized ), compared to 177 vaccinated with a complete cycle for less than 6 months, out of a reference population which at the end of October was almost 39 million.
In the month under review, the 424 unvaccinated represented 64% of Covid ICU admissions, while the 177 vaccinated 26.7%.
CASES UNDER 20 AND CHILDREN
A quarter of the new cases of Covid-19 in Italy concern the under 20s, and among small children hospitalizations are rising, is the trend reported by the Higher Institute of Health. “In the last week – reads the report – the trend observed in the previous one is confirmed, with 25% of cases diagnosed in the population under the age of 20. 49% of school age cases were diagnosed in the age group 6-11 years “, the one for which the possibility of a vaccine is expected shortly, and in which” there is, starting from the second week of October, a greater increase in the incidence compared to the rest of the population in school age, with a surge in the last 2 weeks “. In school age, “34% of cases were diagnosed in the 12-19 age group”, while “only 11% and 6%, respectively, between the ages of 3 and 5 and under 3”.
Among the little ones, however, hospitalizations are increasing. “It is also highlighted – the experts note – an increase in the hospitalization rate in the age group under 3 years”, although “just above 2 hospitalizations per 100 thousand inhabitants, in recent weeks, while in the other age groups it is stable”.
CASES FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC
From the start of the epidemic to November 17, “in the population 0-19 years old, 808,228 confirmed cases were reported to the integrated surveillance system Covid-19, of which 34 died“. The admissions among children and adolescents were altogether 8,557, those in intensive care 251, reports the ISS, highlighting that from 1 to 14 November” in this population 22,202 new cases were reported, of which 143 hospitalized and 5 hospitalized in intensive care “.
This is the distribution of cases, hospitalizations and deaths from the beginning of the emergency for the different age groups under 19: 16-19 years 229,073 cases, 2,068 hospitalizations, 74 hospitalizations in intensive care and 7 deaths; 12-15 years 192,273 cases, 1,301 hospitalizations, 58 ICU admissions and 8 deaths.
Again: between the ages of 6 and 11, the group for which the possibility of a vaccine is expected shortly, since the beginning of the epidemic there have been 241,739 cases, 1,407 hospitalizations, 36 hospitalizations in intensive care and 9 deaths. Finally, from 3 to 5 years 81,882 cases, 734 hospitalizations, 19 intensive care hospitalizations and 5 deaths; under the age of 3 63,261 cases, 3,047 hospitalizations, 64 hospitalizations in intensive care and 5 deaths.
