Thiruvananthapuram: Strict control on district basis in case of rising Kovid (Covid 19) in the state. Thrissur, Kozhikode and Wayanad have the highest test positivity. Districts including Ernakulam have tightened restrictions.

In Kozhikode district, all public functions have been banned as the average three-day test passivity rate is more than 30 per cent, the district collector said. This applies to religious events as well. The district police chief was tasked with taking action to control the flow of the public to the beaches and to curb the influx of the public into hotels and malls.

As the average test positivity rate for three days in Thrissur is 31.26, the District Collector has informed that public functions will not be allowed from tomorrow. All social, political, cultural, community and religious events should be avoided. The district collector also said that celebrations like festivals should be held only for ceremonies.

In the context of the spread of Kovid, more restrictions were imposed in Wayanad district. The district collector said the operation of swimming pools, spas and gyms in resorts has been banned for two weeks. He also advised businesses to strictly adhere to Kovid standards. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting convened in the Collector’s Chamber.

With the passing of TPR 35, the district administration has tightened the Kovid restrictions in Ernakulam. The decision to increase the number of Kovid tests was taken at a meeting chaired by Minister P Rajeev. Restrictions on access to shopping malls have also been tightened.

In Ernakulam district, which includes Kochi, the commercial capital of the state, there were 4,100 Kovid patients in the past day. This change is from where only 400 Kovid cases were reported on January 1 last year. It is in this context that the move to increase the number of Kovid tests in the district was made. A meeting of the people’s representatives and local body representatives will be convened soon to discuss further restrictions. The review meeting chaired by Minister P. Rajeev also decided to restrict the activities of places of worship.

There are 117 Kovid patients in the emergency department in the district. Although the number of cases is increasing, it is reassuring that the number of people in critical condition is not as high as it used to be. Currently, there are over a thousand ICU-oxygen beds in the district. But it is worrying that people are not as careful as they used to be.
