Covid Malta, “herd immunity achieved”

by time news

Malta is the first EU country to have vaccinated 70 percent of the adult population with at least one dose of Covid vaccine. “Today we have achieved herd immunity”, announced Health Minister Chris Fearne, stressing that “the vaccine is a weapon against the virus”. Malta, with a population of around 500,000 people, has administered over 475,000 doses of the vaccine, according to data updated on Sunday and released today.

Fearne reported that just under 42 percent of the over 16 population is now fully vaccinated, with a rate of 65 percent of the over 60 population.

The vaccination campaign is currently open to all over 16. Starting July 1, announced the Minister of Health, the ban on wearing a mask outdoors for all fully vaccinated people will fall, while the obligation to wear a mask on beaches will cease starting June 1st.
