| Covid: Population in EU countries has decreased

by time news

London: The European Union recorded a decline in population for the second year in a row. After January 2020, the population of the 27 European Union countries has decreased by 6,56,000 people, according to Eurostat’s report.

It is estimated that more than 20 lakh people have died in the region so far due to the Covid-19 epidemic. The Eurostat report also points out that although there is an increase in immigration in 2020 and 2021, it will not help to solve the natural population decline.

According to the report, the impact of covid is the main reason for the decrease in population. Since 1960, only 2011 saw a decrease in the population of the European Union. The Eurostat report also makes it clear that the total population will continue to decline in the coming years, given the Covid pandemic, a population that is more old than young, and a relatively low fertility rate.

Italy, Poland and Romania recorded the largest population declines. However, the population increased in France, the Netherlands and Sweden. As of January 2022, it is estimated that 44.68 crore people are living in EU countries.
