CPM and BJP joined hands against the strike of fishermen in Vizhinjam. CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan and BJP district president VV Rajesh shared the stage in the secretariat march organized by the local people’s association. VV Rajesh also said that the peaceful protests against the Vizhinjam strike would be supported by the CPM.

The CPM, which says it opposes the BJP tooth and nail, has joined hands with them against the Vizhinjam strike. The parties standing on opposite poles came together in a long march that started from Mullur and ended in front of the Secretariat. Vizhinjam Port Local People’s Association held a long march with the demands of demolishing Vizhinjam Samarapanthal and completing the project without delay. Anavoor Nagappan alleged that the fishermen who are striking in Vizhinjam have some other interests and continued to support the protests against it.

VV Rajesh warned that there is a limit to the protests and reminded that the project is being implemented jointly by the Center and the state. Although the CPM and the BJP disagree with the fishermen’s strike for different reasons, this is the first time that the senior leaders have agreed to publicize it. Congresswoman Mullur ward councilor Omana also participated in the strike.
