Thiruvananthapuram: CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that Saji Cheriyan’s resignation in the controversial speech was also based on the party’s stand and Saji Cheriyan had admitted to the party that he had made a mistake in his speech. Stating that Saji Cheriya will not be replaced by a minister soon, Kodiyeri said that the departments handled by him will be handed over to other ministers and the Chief Minister will take a decision in this regard. Neither the matter of the new minister nor the development of the cabinet has been discussed at this time. CPM is a party that works by accepting the constitution. Saji Cherian, realizing that there were some lapses in his speech, immediately volunteered to resign. He upheld high democratic values. He also set an example. Kodiyeri said that the incident has been discussed far and wide but with his resignation, all those issues are now irrelevant.

“Saji Cherian said in the secretariat that it was a mistake. The decision to resign was taken earlier, only the media did not know about it. The party is fighting for the protection of the constitution. Constitution is the basis of democracy. Saji Cherian’s resignation after realizing that there was a mistake in his speech. In this regard, the party will give an explanation to the people and there will be area-wise explanation meetings from next week. There is no intention to replace Saji Cherian in the cabinet. Departments will be distributed by the Chief Minister to others. He has been entrusted with this,” said Kodiyeri.
