Crackdown on online crime: UAE with warning

Abu Dhabi: UAE has warned that it will take strict action against online crimes. According to the UAE Public Prosecution, serious crimes are punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of Dhs 5 lakh. A fine of one lakh dirhams is to be paid in addition to imprisonment for petty offences.

Those who hack websites or electronic systems will be fined up to 3 lakh dirhams. Officials also stated that if the website is partially disrupted by hacking, it will be punished with imprisonment of at least 6 months and a fine of 1.5 lakh dirhams to 5 lakh dirhams.
