A 54-year-old man died of robbery in Largo General Osório, in the Cracolândia region, in downtown São Paulo, earlier this Tuesday (15) evening.

The death occurred on a day marked by strong tension in the region, with confusion between shopkeepers and drug addicts in the afternoon. At night, GCM (Metropolitan Civil Guard) teams dispersed users who were on the corner of Rua dos Gusmões and Avenida Rio Branco, in Santa Ifigênia, with bombs and rubber bullets.

According to the incident report, the victim was identified as João da Silva Sousa. No one had been arrested for the crime until the publication of this text.

Metropolitan civil guards said that, around 6:30 pm, they went to Largo General Osório to help a robbery victim who had been injured by a knife.

The agents found the man on the ground and helped him to the emergency room at Santa Casa, in Vila Buarque, also downtown, where he died three hours later.

According to information from the BO, Sousa worked as a doorman and lived in a building in Largo General Osório and was allegedly approached as he went to work.

Witnesses reported to the guards, as recorded in the police report, that the man was attacked by a thief who appeared to be a homeless person and a drug user.

The bandit’s intention would be to take the victim’s backpack, who resisted. The criminal then would have hit Sousa with a white weapon on the left side of the chest. The weapon was not found.

The backpack was taken, and the doorman’s wallet and cell phone were left at the scene.
