On the occasion of the holding of this committee which is part of the ongoing efforts of the ministry for the transmission of artisanal know-how, Ms. Ammor was delighted with the welcome from the Foundation for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage of Rabat, as a new effective member of the steering committee of this major program, reiterating the ministry’s commitment to succeed in this 2nd edition and to ultimately achieve the set objective of preserving and transmitting 32 threatened professions, indicates the ministry in a press release.
For his part, the UNESCO Representative for the Maghreb, Eric Falt, underlined the unique nature of this project throughout the African continent, reaffirming UNESCO’s mobilization to support this “beautiful” project, reports the same source.
This 2nd steering committee, the main governance body of the program, recalled the results of the first edition, having made it possible in 2023 to select six distinguished master craftsmen representing emblematic trades such as Blousa Oujdia, Embroidered Saddles, Violin making, Zellige of Tetouan, tent weaving and embroidery of Salé, the ministry said, noting that the six master craftsmen were able to share their expertise with 57 apprentices, 72% of whom were women.
Furthermore, the committee examined the recommendations to support these young apprentices, in particular by organizing them into cooperatives, helping them find equipped premises, training them to access financing and supporting them to participate in international fairs and exhibitions. .
Given the success experienced during the previous edition, it was decided to increase the number of professions for this 2nd edition to 10 instead of 6 initially planned.
Thus, the steering committee ruled on different trades, namely rammed earth, southern basketry, rbati caftan, Tataoui, deg essouiri, bellows, wool felting, embroidered leather pouf, Ziouani leather , and ceramics from Meknes.
The next steps will initially concern the identification of 10 master craftsmen and 100 apprentices and then move on to the training stage, notes the press release.
This steering committee was marked by the participation of the Executive Director of the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat, Yousra Aannour, the Secretary General of the Ministry, Mohammed Msellek, the Director General of the Maison de l’Artisan, Tarik Sadiq, the President of the Federation of Craft Enterprises, Khalid Alami, the President of the Chamber of Crafts of Fés-Méknes and representative of the Federation of Chambers of Crafts, Abdelmalek El Boutayine, as well as the Director of the Federation of the Chambers of Crafts, Abdelhakim Hilali.
