Radio and TV presenter Raimundo Varela, 75 years old, died in the early hours of Thursday (7), in Salvador. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Varela was one of the main communicators in Bahia and has an extensive career on radio and television. Born in Itabuna, in the south of Bahia, Varela moved to the Bahian capital as a child. He grew up in the Periperi neighborhood, in the suburbs of Salvador.

Before his professional career in radio and TV, he worked in a cement factory in the Centro Industrial de Aratu (CIA), was director of a social club in Cidade Baixa, taxi driver and soccer player.

Varela worked at TV Itapoan, an affiliate of Record in Bahia, and at TV Bandeirantes. Controversial, he created the Balanço Geral program, which was included in Record TV’s programming and expanded to all affiliates. He also created the red card for the targets of his articles. According to the presenter’s son, Gel Varela, the communicator had been admitted to a clinic in the Nazaré neighborhood for more than 10 days. According to the family, since the Covid-19 pandemic, Varela had been experiencing health problems.
