Credit to families fell 1.2% in March

He credit granted by financial institutions to families and non-profit institutions residents in Spain fell 1.2% in March compared to the same month of 2022, to 691,637 million euros, while financing to companies fell 1.4%, to 930,323 million euros, according to data published this Wednesday by the Bank of Spain.

Compared to March 2022, the credit granted to families has fallen by 8,144 million and that provided to companies, by 13,041 million euros, all in a context now marked by the impact on the Spanish economy of the war in Ukraine and price escalation.

In monthly comparison, borrowing of families decreased slightly by 829 million euros in March in relation to the month of February, which is 0.1% less. On the other hand, corporate debt in March stood at 1,486 million euros above the figure for February, 0.2% more.

Household mortgage loans, which represent the majority of its total debt, stood at 507,320 million euros in March, which is 1.7% less than a year earlier, and the data is also slightly lower compared to to the previous month.

In this way, data from the Bank of Spain show that the amount that families allocate to their homes continues to occupy the majority of their indebtedness, since it represents around 73.4% of it.
