After having released her first album “Folclore” in 2017, which made Cremilda Medina recognized nationally and internationally, the Cape Verdean singer from Morna e Coladeira now returns with another studio album entitled “Nova aurora”. The official release of the album took place last May. And, this Saturday night, in her hometown, on the island of São Vicente, Cremilda Medina will present her new record in an intimate concert.
In conversation with RFI, in the city of Mindelo, Cremilda Medina explained that with the album “Nova Aurora” she continues the journey she started with the album “Folclore” through the rhythms of morna and coladeira and yet another album thinking about the essence of tradition , continuing the search and preservation of the old days, in sounds that remind you of other times and people of yesteryear
Also Cremilda Medina did not leave out interpreters like Tito Paris.
In 2018, when the morna was still a candidate for Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, when Cremilda invited Tito Paris to record the famous “Nôs Morna” as an incentive and support for the candidacy that later, in December 2019, came to be ratified by Unesco. And it was with “Nôs Morna” by Manuel de Novas, Cesária Évora’s favorite composer, that Cremilda Medina won the “World Music” award in the United States of America in 2019, thus kicking off the new work.
In this Saturday’s show, at 9 pm in Cape Verde, midnight in Paris, Cremilda Medina will be accompanied by local musicians under the direction of pianist Tchenta Neves and also by the unavoidable figure in Cape Verdean music, the instrumentalist, Bau Almeida. The intimate concert for the presentation of the album “Nova Aurora” takes place at the Mansa Marina Hotel, former Pont D’Agua cultural space, in the center of the city of Mindelo.
