Frame by frame the entire scene has been captured by a security camera with the 92-year-old resident of the Elderly Care Unit in Heraklion, who ended up accidentally drinking cleaning fluid instead of water.
As reported by cretalive.gr, the elderly woman drank from the bottle given to her by the 23-year-old nurse to take her medication. The unfortunate woman reportedly drank slowly for nearly half an hour until she became uncomfortable, coughing and foaming at the mouth, mobilizing everyone in the structure.
Unfortunately, the grandmother had a severe form of dementia and thus was unable to realize that what she was drinking was not water.
On behalf of the staff, every possible effort was made to provide first aid, the family was informed as well as the EMS for immediate transport to the hospital.
Now the authorities as well as the owner of the nursing home are looking, even through the security cameras, to locate the human hand that placed, by mistake as it is estimated, the plastic bottle with the cleaner, in the cabinet with water bottles and glasses.
According to testimony, the liquid in question was clear and had no odor suggestive of disinfectant. However, the exact composition of the liquid was to be clarified after the conclusion of the authorities, as a sample has already been sent for analysis to special laboratories.
Information indicates that a technician has already started the ten-day in-depth inspection process. The area where the cabinet is located and used by the nurses does not have a security camera, but at the entrance to this area, a camera installed in a common area of the structure is clearly visible.

The three arrested – the 53-year-old owner, a 28-year-old temporary manager of the unit and a 23-year-old nurse – were taken to the prosecutor who released them, while ordering a preliminary examination on the case.
The three are facing the charge of negligent homicide, while the 53-year-old is allegedly additionally charged with the charge of illegal operation of the structure, as there was a decision from last June by the Region of Crete to shut down operations due to the lack of an establishment and operation permit. However, the nursing home was reportedly operating under a temporary court order.
