The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic presented the document that judicializes the criminal process against the former ARENA deputy, Alberto Armando Romero Rodríguez, who is accused of money and asset laundering, and illicit enrichment.

“Different financial products have been analyzed that have made it possible to conclude and confirm an unjustified increase in assets, and through a restructuring of funds (distribution to other people) the capital has been laundered,” stated one of the prosecutors in the case of the Specialized Unit against Money Laundering.

A request was filed before the First Criminal Court of the First Section of the center of San Salvador, and formal investigation with provisional detention was requested.

According to information from the FGR, on August 14, Alberto Romero was civilly convicted of illicit enrichment by the Chamber of the Second Section of the Center of Cojutepeque. Upon conviction, the deputy must return to the State a total of $445,766 dollars and 5 cents.

On August 23, the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodolfo Delgado, requested the Legislative Assembly to begin the pre-trial process and request for immunity for the former deputy, which was accepted by the parliamentarians and the former official was allowed to be criminally prosecuted.
