New Delhi : Out of the current 225 members of Rajya Sabha, 33 percent have informed about criminal cases registered against them while the total assets of these MPs is Rs 19,602 crore. Election rights body ADR has given this information based on the analysis of affidavits of MPs. Apart from this, 31 i.e. 14 percent of these MPs are billionaires. In an analysis by ADR and National Election Watch (NEW), two Rajya Sabha members have faced cases related to murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) while four MPs have faced cases related to attempt to murder under section 307. Information has been given.

According to the report, ‘Out of the 225 sitting members of Rajya Sabha, 75 (33 percent) have reported having criminal cases registered against them and 40 (18 percent) have reported having serious criminal cases registered against them.’

In the analysis, the criminal cases registered against MPs were also examined from the perspective of political parties.

BJP has been at the forefront in this matter, with 23 percent of its 90 Rajya Sabha members having criminal cases registered against them. Such cases are registered against 50 percent of the 28 Congress MPs.

ADR’s analysis said five out of 13 Rajya Sabha members from TMC (38 per cent), four out of six members from Rashtriya Janata Dal (67 per cent), four out of five from Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) (80 per cent) , three out of 10 Aam Aadmi Party MPs (30 per cent), four out of 11 Rajya Sabha members of YSRCP (36 per cent) and two out of 10 DMK MPs (20 per cent) have given information about criminal cases registered against them in the affidavits. Apart from criminal background, the analysis also delved into the assets of Rajya Sabha members, which revealed that the average assets per MP is Rs 87.12 crore.

Analyzing the data further, the report revealed significant disparities in the wealth of different political parties.

Among major parties, BJP has 9 out of 90 (10 per cent), Congress 4 out of 28 (14 per cent), YSRCP 5 out of 11 (45 per cent), AAP 2 out of 10 (20 per cent), TRS Three out of four (75 percent) and two out of six (33 percent) RJD MPs have declared assets worth more than Rs 100 crore.

According to the analysis, the total assets of the current members of Rajya Sabha are Rs 19,602 crore.
