“Morocco is important not only for what it represents today but also for what it will represent on our path towards Africa, the future of Europe,” Mr. Zaldo emphasizes in an article published on Saturday by the newspaper “eleconomista.”
“Africa is the great economic opportunity for Europe. Spain, together with Morocco, must be at the head of this process, because Morocco is the second investor in sub-Saharan Africa and the first in the northern half of Africa,” observes the Spanish academic in an article entitled “The importance of Morocco for Spain and Europe”, calling for seizing the strong presence of Morocco in the African continent to make way for the economic market of Africa.
Moroccan companies invest in almost all areas and could play an important role in the “process of economic integration between Europe and Africa,” he notes.
Morocco, which enjoys “great economic and social stability”, is the eighth destination for Spanish exports and the second outside the EU after the United States, recalls the author of the article, noting that trade between Morocco and Spain exceeds that with China and Brazil.
For Mr. Zaldo, former president of the Moroccan-Spanish Entrepreneurial Committee, these exports to Morocco represent several thousand jobs for the Spanish because 76% of them are high value-added products with a high growth projection.
