He Cristian Salguero’s ninth concert at La Academia It was a demonstration of the talent that the young Guatemalan possesses. In this performance he performed the song that was assigned to him, once again a song that is a true anthem for Mexicans. Nothing more and nothing less than a song by Vicente Fernández, El Rey.

The comments following Cristian’s presentation were very well received, you could read messages like: Cristian, brother, you are Mexican. Comments also appeared on social media such as: Divine interpretation by Cristian. Literally a whole reAnd yet, critics apparently did not like the adaptation presented and expressed this in their comments. According to them, the acting was not the best, including López Gavito and Lolita Cortés.
Critics versus Masters
As we could see, the presentation was with a modern character or approach, not so attached to Vicente’s original. This caused a moment of tension between critics and teachers. One of the most heated discussions was between Lolita Cortes and the director of the Academy. Between interruptions, each one indicated his points of view.
Lolita questioned him if he had actually heard Vicente Fernandez’s interpretation, but that he did not perform it on stage. Apparently they did not sing Mexican music and the versatility was not seen. While Arturo Lopez Gavito He was a bit more direct from the start, very much in style. He told him that like Caro, he was sunk by the stage design they had given him and that it was a shame. The contemporary arrangements were an issue, as well as the montages of the songs and not understanding why that happened. He told him that it was a shame for doing so badly at this stage of the competition.
To Espinoza Paz Cristian’s performance was tied to showing his own style. He gave as an example the time when Vicente Fernandez performed a duet with Roberto Carlos and the latter sang in accordance with his style and presence.

Cristian’s Independence Greeting
In the preview, a few hours before, they published the video with a message from Cristian Salguero. In this he sent a Greetings for the celebration of the Independence of Guatemala. He confessed to missing Guatemalan food, and showed his nostalgia by mentioning that he imagined that by the date and time, everything was already ready in Guatemala. He talked about the parades, especially the food sold on the streets such as slushies, mangoes with seeds and lemon, jocotes and chicharrines.
He also commented on the great responsibility he feels for singing such an important song as Vicente Fernández’s El Rey on a special date for Mexico. He indicated that he was taking it seriously because he knows the affection of the Mexican people and that they have even allowed him to be in the competition.
The tension was high at times when Cristian’s name was not mentioned among those saved to continue. He was among the least voted of the week, which led to his expulsion from La Academia.
The competition continues and with only a few concerts left, the excitement is growing to find out who will make it to the final to obtain that coveted first place among the academics.
