Cristina Acidini: “A new beginning with open lungs”

by time news

Learning to breathe again: a strange challenge for scrambled and compressed lungs, to widen alveolus by alveolus. It is with a smile that I welcome the memory, out of place but now impossible to drive away, of the network (technically, omentum) to wrap the pork livers all’aretina. Grandma F. cautiously dipped it in warm water and then spread that web of membranes and fatty fibers in the air, to be flavored with fennel seeds to give, as she used to say with a chosen Renaissance term, “grace”. And it comes to mind – I would not like – when the net rolled into confused knives. And when now in the kitchen the cling film, once compressed, never re-stretches again. Get away from these overwhelming metaphors! Rather, crepe and tissue papers, reactive, which swell even crumpled … A pleasant surprise comes to me the video of a 15th century painting with five beautiful and wise girls on thrones of clouds: they have eddies of veils on their heads, mobile embroideries on their chests. I breathe that light wind, lungs spread like sails.
