The heat of the quota reform movement has spread across the country. Nipun Akhter, the former general secretary of actresses and film artists association, has released a statement in such a situation.
Early on Tuesday (July 17) Nipun posted a post on Facebook about the quota. Criticism started with his post.
Nipun said in a statement, ‘We will never be able to repay this debt of freedom fighters. Even if the Bengali gives his last drop of blood, he will pay humble respect to the freedom fighters.’
Then he brought up the quota reform movement and said, ‘There is no difference between us or the state regarding the logical movement of quota reform. We have full support for any rational political or social movement by any individual or group. But I strongly condemn, hate and protest those who are disrespecting the freedom fighters and trying to establish Razakars by issuing this quota movement. Must rememberā¦ Who are you?, Who am I?, Bengali, Bengaliā¦ This slogan is the most proud slogan of the Bengali nation. Joy Bangla.’
Nipun has come under criticism mainly for three reasons. First of all, Master made the statement using the official pad of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association. There he called himself ‘Former General Secretary’.
Currently, he does not hold any title in Bangladesh Film Artists Association. So how does he have the right to use the official pads of the association – many have questioned this. Secondly, Nipun’s statement is similar to that of the Television Actors Association. Thirdly, Nippon’s statement avoids incidents of violence and casualties in the movement.
In Nipun’s post, a person named Masud Rana Naqeeb wrote in the comments section, “But the question is, how can you use the pad of the association to protest by ignoring the current president and general secretary of the association?” You are not even in any position of this committee. Even as a former general secretary, you showed the ninja technique of using the pad of the association!
Another person named Mo Hasibuzzaman wrote, ‘Apaya created controversy by saving his own interests by putting honorable issues like the great liberation war and freedom fighters in front.’
The current committee of Film Artistes Association has not received any comment on the matter.
