Croatian poetry and classical music come to the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco

Speaking on this occasion, the Permanent Secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, Abdeljalil Lahjomri returned to the context in which this event takes place, recalling some notable facts testifying to the depth of the historical and cultural links which connect the Republic of Croatia and the Kingdom of Morocco.

Furthermore, he affirmed that the organization of this meeting which coincides with the listing of Malhoun as UNESCO‘s intangible cultural heritage “is not the result of chance, but the fruit of a continuous partnership” with the the Croatian embassy, ​​explaining that this cultural event “centered on singing, poetry and music” evokes, without a doubt, the modernity of a dynamic and enterprising society.

“I have the firm conviction that cultural events like what we are experiencing today will arouse the curiosity of young doctoral researchers, who attend the seminars and conferences of the Academy of the Kingdom,” he underlined, specifying that the latter will have the opportunity to discover the particular situation of Croatia and will have the opportunity to see to what extent poetry is “a form which accompanies Croatian history and which sings of its suffering since 1450”.

And to add that in Croatia as in Morocco, poetry has accompanied “the upheavals of History”, ensuring that today it has taken a new turn, marked by the choice of new themes and a language symbolic, close to surrealism.

For her part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Kingdom of Morocco, Jasna Mileta, affirmed that the holding of this “prestigious” cultural event is only a new confirmation of Moroccan values ​​very rich in diversity, live- together and openness to world cultures.

Furthermore, Ms. Mileta gave an overview of the literary history of her country, recalling the impact of different historical and political influences on Croatian literature over the centuries.

In the same vein, the diplomat underlined the extent to which Croatian literature testifies to “the vitality of the Croatian people”, who have managed to preserve their heritage while looking towards the future.

During this evening, the poet and essayist Branko Čegec and the poets and translators Brankica Radić and Vanda Mikšić presented Croatian poetry and the translation project of the publishing house L’Ollave, before reading, in Croatian and in French, the verses of 12 Croatian poets, namely: Antun Branko Šimić, Dobriša Cesarić, Jure Kaštelan, Slavko Mihalić, Andriana Škunca, Anka Žagar, Branko Čegec, Miroslav Mićanović, Brankica Radić, Vanda Mikšić, Ana Brnardić and Alen Brlek.

In addition, a classical music concert was given by Croatian pianists Iva Ljubičić Lukić and Kosjenka Turkulin.

Organized by the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Morocco, this cultural event is part of a study day focused on “The Croatian poetic field”, in the aim of promoting Croatian artistic and literary wealth.

This cultural evening also demonstrates the contribution of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco to the promotion of the intellectual, cultural and artistic heritage of the various civilizations of Humanity, with the aim of encouraging and developing artistic creativity.
