“I’m optimistic that the contract will be finalized soon,” the 37-year-old forward said Monday at the NHLPA’s media event in Las Vegas. “I don’t know exactly which day, but soon. The negotiation process has not been complicated at all.”

Crosby, who has one year remaining on his previous 12-year contract worth a total of $104.4 million ($8.7 million per season), said he plans to complete the new deal before the season starts on Oct. 9.

In the last two seasons, “Penguins” have not participated in the Stanley Cup competition, in the 2022/2023 season, after the regular championship, they were one point behind the “play off” zone, and in the past season – three points.

Last season, Crosby collected 94 (42+52) points in 82 games of the regular championship, but in total, during his NHL career, he scored 1596 (592+1004) points in 1272 games, being the tenth most productive player of the league. In the Stanley Cup, the striker has accumulated 201 (71+130) points in 180 games.

Crosby was selected by the “Penguins” with the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL rookie draft and since then he has only represented the Pittsburgh team.

Crosby is one of the 30 players who have been in the “Triple Gold” club – he has three Stanley Cups (2009, 2016, 2017), a triumph with the Canadian national team in the 2015 World Championship, as well as the 2010 Vancouver and at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.
