Cross Triathlon: Alessandria’s Menditto on top of the world

by time news

Townsville (Australia) – Marta Menditto from Alessandria, after placing sixth in the kilometer swim, won the world cross triathlon title currently underway in Townsville, Australia, thanks to today’s victory in MTB with a time of 1:40:59 ahead of Romy Spoelder (Ned) and Maeve Kennedy (Aus). The athlete from Alessandria had already won the European title in 2023 in Riva del Garda, Trentino, and second place overall and the Under 23 title in Targu Mures, Romania in 2022. The athlete, born in 1999, was the only Italian representative in the race. “The swimming section is difficult – commented Menditto at the end of the match –, I came out delayed by the first ones and then I pushed on the MTB, my best fraction, to recover the gap from the head of the race and I succeeded. Once in the lead I defended the advantage in the race. I’m happy”. Cross Triathlon differs from the classic version in the use of a mountain bike in the cycling section and in the running on dirt tracks instead of on the road. Swimming is practiced in open water.
