by time news

After the Olympic binge, starting tonight on Rai 2, the regular programming resumes, and at 9:20 PM, episodes of the last season of CSI: Vegas will air. The series was created in 2021 as a homage to the original CSI, so much so that in its debut season, the first (and most beloved) characters from the Las Vegas Crime Lab, namely the duo Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle, were brought back, portrayed by William Petersen and Jorja Fox.

CSI: Vegas Returns to Rai 2 This Evening for Its Final Season After CBS Cancellation

Despite the good success of this event series, after the airing of the third season in America last spring, CBS has decided not to produce a fourth season. This decision comes with the regret of many fans of the investigations by the legendary American forensic team.

CSI: Vegas 3, the last season is on Rai 2

The fourth spin-off of the franchise, CSI: Vegas returns to where it all began, in the city that never sleeps, Sin City, where a new team of investigators, led by Maxine Roby (Paul Newsome), faces a deadly threat to the forensic police department. Old glories unite to combat crime using the latest forensic techniques. Amid personal dramas and intricate mysteries, justice shines in the neon-lit streets of Sin City.

After the first two seasons, this third and final season no longer features Gil Grissom (William Petersen), the iconic protagonist of many CSI episodes, but we find another beloved character from the show: agent Catherine Willows, played by actress Marg Helgenberger. For this role, she returned to act in CSI after more than ten years, receiving two Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

Preview of the first episode White Lies

The CSI team, after arresting Folsom for the murder of Kahn (Shane Callahan), is now working to exonerate him and find the real killer. Trey (Daniel di Tomasso), as involved as Folsom in the whole affair, disappears without a trace. Meanwhile, Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) wants to settle scores with the drug trafficker Raphael Tarquenio.

Reexamining a case from five years ago, the team begins an investigation inside a college, while also focusing on the murders of two impersonators of Frank Sinatra and Joey Bishop. Their bodies have been found within a wall, and the initial suspects in the crime seem to be other members of the special agency that provided “fake stars” at low cost. As always, the brilliant Maxine (Paula Newsome) leads the investigation.

The cast also features revelation Paula Newsome

Born in Chicago in 1961, Paula Newsome started acting as a child, performing in a local theater, then moved to New York City where she was cast in a series of Broadway productions. She made her big screen debut in the 1992 film with Dolly Parton Straight Talk, later appearing in many famous TV shows like Law & Order, Ally McBeal, Dharma & Greg, and Criminal Minds.

After a lot of experience, in 2021, success opened its doors for Paula. First with a significant role in Spider-Man: No Way Home alongside Tom Holland and Zendaya, and then she was called as the lead in the first season of CSI: Vegas. A series that will last three seasons and which, despite good ratings, was not renewed by CBS.

«I received the news from my showrunner Jason Tracey, and I was really surprised because our ratings were really good» commented Paula to the portal Tv Line. She continued: «The truth is that part of what we do as actors is that sometimes we have to wait in the hallway between roles, and it’s about appreciating the time spent waiting. Before I got the role of CSI: Vegas for example, two minutes before receiving that call, I knew nothing about it. So let’s see what the future holds for me, in the meantime, I enjoy the anticipation.»
