Hyderabad: In the 2024 IPL series, Chennai Super Kings lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. This is CSK’s second defeat after Rudraaj Gaekwad was appointed as the new captain of CSK team.
Led by Ruduraj Gaekwad, CSK won the first two matches but lost the next two matches. Especially in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the CSK team stumbled due to some decisions made by the experienced captain Pat Cummins.
CSK batted first in this match. Pat Cummins then made a decision to test the pitch. They made their team’s part-time spinner Abhishek Sharma bowl the first over. CSK scored only 7 runs in that over.
In that over, the ball stopped a bit after hitting the pitch. With that, he implemented a plan on how fast bowlers should bowl their overs. Accordingly all the fast bowlers reduced their speed and bowled.
So, CSK batsmen struggled to time the ball properly. Pat Cummins then saw Shivam Dube target the spinners only and did not give any overs to the spinners after that.
Apart from Abhishek Sharma, he was able to do this easily as he had six bowlers in the team. Pat Cummins was right in choosing the team in that way. After this, CSK scored only 165 runs in 20 overs.
Next, when the CSK team bowled, Rudraaj Gaekwad did not give a clear plan to the bowlers as to how to bowl due to inexperience. Similarly, he had chosen fast bowler Mukesh Chaudhary as the impact player. He bowled just one over and conceded 27 runs. Instead of selecting him, the experienced Shardul Thakur should have been selected in the team. Rudraaj Jaikwad is sliding as the captain of the CSK team in that place.
At times, Ruduraj Gaekwad was sloppy in team selection and giving overs to the bowlers. Whatever Dhoni advises off the field, Rudraaj Gaekwad takes all the decisions on the field. In that way, Rudraaj Gaekwad’s stumbling in front of Pat Cummins has come to light.
