CSKA defeated Sochi away and reached the quarterfinals of the Russian Football Cup

The next participants of the quarterfinal stage of the Cup of Russia have become known. Alania-Vladikavkaz joined the capital’s Dynamo, having beaten the Tula Arsenal (1:0) at home, and CSKA, having defeated Sochi on the road with a score of 2:1.

The army team has been great in the winter off-season, inviting four players at once. Interestingly, the Red-Blues did not pay a single ruble for any of them, since they all went to CSKA on loan. And what should please the fans of the capital’s team even more – all the newcomers from the very first match began to show their class.

As in last weekend’s derby with Spartak (2:0), Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Yusuf Yazici and Jorge Carrascal entered Sochi in the starting lineup. Only Jesús Medina remained on the bench, but he appeared on the field already in the 24th minute, replacing the injured Anton Zabolotny.

Well, the hero of the meeting unexpectedly became the defender of CSKA Igor Diveev, who, by the way, was criticized a lot for the game against Spartak. It was Diveev who scored both goals of the “red-blue” in yesterday’s match and brought his team a strong-willed victory – 2:1.

Well, the first participant in the quarter-final stage was Dynamo. In the match of the 1/8 finals, the “white-blue” defeated “Nizhny Novgorod” at home – 3:0.

After the first part of the season, in which Dynamo proved to be quite bright and wedged into the fight for the championship, many experts wondered if the team would have enough strength and class after the winter break to continue the race for Zenit in the national championship and also fight in country cup? As shown by the starting two meetings after the restart of the season, nothing has changed in Dynamo. Wards of Sandro Schwartz did not slow down at all.

In the last two matches, the “white-blue” won two victories with a total score of 6:0. To be fair, the rivals of the capital’s club were far from the giants of domestic football – Khimki and Nizhny Novgorod. But it would not be out of place to recall that one of the two home defeats this season, Dynamo suffered just from Nizhny (1:2), conceding the second goal in the very end and not converting a penalty.

In the cup meeting, Schwartz’s players did not leave any chances for the less eminent opponent: Daniil Fomin, Vyacheslav Grulev and Fedor Smolov, who scored from the penalty spot, distinguished themselves.

– I would like to express my gratitude to my players for their attitude and for the way they showed themselves on the field. I think today’s victory was absolutely deserved, – said the head coach of the “white-blue” Sandro Schwartz.

That Schwartz belongs to the main merit in the recent success of Dynamo. Sandro showed himself not only as a strong coach, but also as a responsible person: the other day he noted that he never even thought of leaving his team. In this sense, Schwartz is strikingly different from his compatriot Markus Gisdol, who, without warning any of the leaders of Lokomotiv and without even saying goodbye to the players, took and left Russia, bypassing all contractual obligations. However, it is unlikely that Loko fans have anything to regret: Gisdol’s level is evidenced by the fact that he has the worst percentage of wins in the RPL among all coaches in the history of the club – 37 (three wins in eight meetings).

CSKA intends to win the Cup, which he has not won since 2013

Against the backdrop of the departure of Gisdol, as well as another German specialist, Daniel Farke from Krasnodar, Dynamo issued a statement emphasizing that, contrary to rumors that have appeared in some media, Schwartz remains the head coach of the Blues.

– We consider it necessary to state the following: Sandro Schwartz continues to work with the team. He has a valid contract with the club,” Dynamo said in a statement.

Cup competitions are held not only in Russia, but also in other European leagues. In particular, in the Hungarian one, where our special attention is riveted to Ferencváros, whose head coach is Stanislav Cherchesov. Cherchesov’s wards reached the semi-finals of the Cup of the country, defeating Honved away with a score of 1:0.
