Starting this Sunday, March 10, the inhabitants of Cuba will have to set their clocks forward one hour, when daylight saving time begins to take effect.

It should be remembered that this period of time goes from the second Sunday in March until the month of November, at which time the schedule returns to normal.

According to a report from the Cuban Science Network, the intention of advancing the clocks is to seek “greater use” of sunlight at a given time of the year, when it dawns earlier and gets darker later.

Meanwhile, specialists assure that the amount of sunlight is not sought as such, but rather what is wanted is to adjust the schedule according to the hours of greatest activity during the day.

Likewise, they affirm that the change in schedule could have positive effects in terms of both physical and mental well-being. During the summer, people will have more time to do outdoor activities.

However, the time change could also bring with it some side effects, especially during the first few days while the body gets used to it. For example, the sudden change could cause, among other things, sleep disorders or circadian rhythm disturbances.

Of course, there will be no shortage of Castro authorities who use this time change to justify their inefficiency with “saving electricity,” taking into account the terrible service that keeps Cubans in check.

And in Cuba, they apply this “electricity savings” themselves throughout the year, due to the wave of blackouts that hit again and again in every corner of the territory.

In fact, in recent days, many Cuban residents have been reporting many blackouts in the region, a suffering that seems to have no end.
