The non-governmental organization (NGO) Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba made a complaint last week. According to the organization, the Cuban dictatorship started to sell young soldiers to act for Russia in the war against Ukraine.

The denunciation of sending people to the conflict in Eastern Europe came from the director of the NGO, Hugo Acha. He spoke on the subject in video shared on twitter last Tuesday, the 6th. Through the social network, the organization defined Cuba as a “transatlantic ally” of Moscow.

“With new evidence presented, it is clear that there are Cuban military personnel operating within the occupied territories in Ukraine,” said Acha. “Tens of thousands of young Cubans killed, injured, maimed and disappeared are just a source of profit for the regime”, continued the director of the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba.

The previous week, Acha had also spoken about the participation of the Cuban dictatorship in favor of Russia in the war. Through social media, he assured what he reinforced again days later: there are Cuban military personnel acting in partnership with troops commanded by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin. He also cited support for the Wagner paramilitary group, which operates in the region of Donbas — and who helped the region unilaterally proclaim independence from Ukraine.

Cuban dictatorship, Russia and war

Officially, the Cuban dictatorship declared that it was against Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Ukrainian territory was invaded by Russian troops in February 2022.
