Sad news shook the community in the last few hours, when Ashley Manuela Echaide Mesa, a Cuban girl of just three years old who became the face of a fight for life, died in Mexico after an operation.
It is worth remembering that Ashley’s family had faced a long process to obtain a humanitarian visa that would allow them to seek medical treatment outside of Cuba and its “medical power.”

Yankiel Fernández was one of those in charge of sharing the heartbreaking news through social networks.
“With deep pain we are shocked, Ashley, our little girl, has died in Mexico after several days of being transplanted. Our prayers and support go out to her mother Yanirys, her grandmother Caridad and her tireless human angel Nelson Alvarez.”it was read in the publication.
Since April of last year, the Cuban girl’s health began to seriously deteriorate, and her mother Yanirys Mesa made a desperate appeal to the Cuban regime for help.
In January, Yanirys criticized the Ministry of Public Health for not keeping its promise to bring Ashley to Spain for surgery.
For her part, the activist, Diasniurka Salcedo, shared her pain on social networks: “I refuse to believe that you just broke up princess, I can’t believe it, I have no way to express so much pain, you just broke me once again.”
Ashley’s death sparked a wave of consternation and once again highlighted the difficulties many families face in seeking medical treatment on the communist island.
While many people must resort to humanitarian visas and undertake long trips away from their homes to seek to save the lives of their children, the Castro regime continues to shamelessly mock by shouting from the rooftops its so-called “medical potency.”
