José Oliva, a 46-year-old Cuban, was arrested by Hialeah police after trying to steal not one, but two vehicles in a short period of time.
Early Monday morning, around 1:30 a.m., Oliva came across what he thought was a “perfect” opportunity when the owner of a 2024 Honda Pilot left his vehicle running while paying for gas at the Victoria station at 385 Hialeah Drive. .
However, his plan failed when the owner of the vehicle caught him in the act. Faced with the confrontation, Oliva pulled out a firearm, forcing the owner to take cover, turning an attempted robbery into a much more serious threat.

Not satisfied, and after a brief struggle, Oliva decided to look for a new target: a Chevrolet Malibu parked in the same place. What he did not anticipate was discovering the owner of this car sleeping peacefully in the passenger seat.
With the unexpected presence of the victim in the vehicle, Oliva proceeded to flee the scene, taking the owner of the Malibu with him on a completely unexpected trip to the Star Motel, on Okeechobee Road, where he finally abandoned the car and its sleeping occupant.
