Cuban Restaurateurs Revive French Village | Gironde, France

The familiar smiles of regulars at the bar signal a welcome revival: La Gamage resturant has sprung back to life in Ruch,Gironde. After a month and a half of closure following the departure of former owner Nathalie Piat, the establishment is now under the direction of Audrey Comet, previously the room manager, alongside her husband Yandiel Batista Delgado. “We were expected to turn things around,” Comet shared, eager about the positive reception since reopening on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. But the path to ownership wasn’t a straightforward one.

A Recipe for Love and a second Chance

“This is truly a life project for us,” audrey Comet admits. After studying graphic design and working various jobs, she crossed paths with Nathalie Piat. “She told me that if I ever decided to leave my old job, she’d hire me immediately at the restaurant. I had no prior experience in the restaurant industry; she simply saw someone with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.”

Their partnership blossomed during the summer of 2021,just before a trip to Cuba. It was there that Audrey met Yandiel Batista Delgado, who was already working in local kitchens. What began as a holiday romance quickly deepened into a lasting connection.Upon her return, audrey was steadfast to bring Yandiel to France.

A Warm Welcome from the Community

Open Tuesday through friday, the restaurant features a rotating daily menu and bar service throughout the day. “The bar was definitely underutilized, and Yandiel’s cocktails are extraordinary,” Audrey noted. On Saturdays, the establishment transforms into a lively gathering place with Latin flair, offering tapas, tortillas, cold cuts, and cheeses, often accompanied by sports broadcasts.

Currently, the public response has been overwhelmingly positive. “When residents learned of Nathalie’s departure,it was a shock. But when they found out we were reopening, they were thrilled. The feedback has been very good,” Audrey and Yandiel shared. “Our goal is simple: to keep the village vibrant.” Judging by the enthusiasm of Ruch’s 600 residents, that goal appears well within reach.
