Cubans members of a family that just arrived in the Florida died in an unfortunate and tragic traffic accident in Boynton Beach.
Apparently, the accident was caused by another driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol and crashed into the vehicle in which this Cuban family was traveling.
In this regard, it was learned that among the Cubans who died instantly after the impact was a woman and her ten-year-old son. Meanwhile, the deceased’s husband is brain dead after suffering from “internal decapitation in the area where the neck separates from the spinal cord,” and a fourth member of the family, a 2-year-old child, is hospitalized at the Delray Beach Medical Center receiving medical attention after having a broken right tibia after surviving the impact.
Through social media, family members and friends of this family have lamented this fateful event, while asking for financial help through the GoFundMe platform to raise funds to give an “honorable” funeral to these Cubans who, like millions of others, left the island in search of a better future far from communism.
This Cuban family was allegedly originally from Holguín, and the couple had apparently worked at the Islazul hotel group in Holguín.
The deceased woman’s name is Yanela Almaguer-Pérez, while her husband (brain dead) is named Alex Cordoves.
Meanwhile, the minor who is admitted responds to the name of Fabio, and the 10-year-old responds to the name of Diego.
“This unfortunate car accident destroyed this family instantly and I would like to give them an honorable goodbye. My sister was a loving and dedicated mother, who lived for her family, who is my family even now that they are gone,” wrote Arsenio Almaguer in the GoFundMe petition, who is the brother of the deceased woman.
“Please help me with any generous amount or share this post so that my family can have a proper funeral,” she added.
What is known about the driver who caused the fatal accident in which the Cubans died in Florida
The driver who caused the fatal accident that took the lives of these Cubans in Florida is known to be in custody by the authorities and to have suffered several minor injuries.
The person’s name is Dawn Howard, who was driving her 2020 Lexus RX350 at a high rate of speed on South Military Trail and as she approached the intersection at Miner Road, the traffic light turned yellow, causing her to accelerate before the light turned red.
As Howard continued traveling on South Military Trail at a high rate of speed, he entered a curve where he turned left and collided with a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta carrying the four Cubans.
