Thousands of Members of Culinary Workers Union to Rally for New Union Contract
Oct 21 (Reuters) – The Culinary Workers Union announced on Saturday that thousands of its members will gather in a rally next week on the iconic Las Vegas Strip. In a bid to secure a new 5-year union contract, some workers will even engage in civil disobedience.
This move follows the recent strike by thousands of hospitality workers in Detroit on Tuesday. The unions called for strikes at various casinos including the MGM Grand Detroit operated by MGM Resorts International, Hollywood Casino at Greektown operated by Penn Entertainment, and MotorCity Casino.
As the momentum of the worker’s rights movement intensifies, the Culinary Union asserts that its members will join the rally on the Las Vegas Strip, specifically at Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard. Additionally, in a show of solidarity and defiance, 75 workers have bravely volunteered to participate in a civil disobedience action right in the middle of the Strip.
The Culinary Union remains steadfast in seeking better working conditions and a new union contract that will address the concerns of its hardworking members.
