The council of ministers on Wednesday, November 8, looked into the project to build a cultural and creative district in Cotonou. The government authorized the signing of various contracts with the service providers responsible for implementing the project.
The contracts validated by the Council of Ministers concern the missions of architectural design, project management assistance, project management, technical studies, and management of the execution of the works. Several service providers are responsible for each aspect of carrying out the project.
The Cotonou Cultural and Creative District (QCCC) is an ambitious project intended to change the face of the Beninese metropolis through cultural creation. It will develop around another cultural infrastructure, the Cotonou Museum of Contemporary Art. With the QCCC, the government wants to position Benin at the forefront of cultural and creative industries in West Africa.
“This high-end cultural project will showcase the potential of the economic capital of Benin, add content to the tourist destination, stimulate the ecosystem of cultural and creative industries, vectors of economic power, influence to international and competitiveness, while ensuring the promotion of a creative economy.”

The platform will create a district of art galleries, artists’ studios, real places of creation and production; laboratory spaces managed by artists, places for creative experimentation; artist residencies, places of research and creation; creative agencies in media, advertising, architecture, audiovisual production; stylist showrooms as places for exhibiting and selling fashion design; offices and coworking spaces, shops and services; a binational Beninese-French cultural center; the mixed craft market of Cotonou, etc.
