A meeting was held in Baku between Azerbaijani Minister of Culture Adil Karimli and a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of China, head of the National Cultural Heritage Administration Li Chun, the press service of the department reported to Day.Az.
The Chinese delegation included Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan Ding Tao, Director General of the Academy of Cultural Heritage Li Liusan and other officials.
Adil Karimli noted the high level of relations between Azerbaijan and China. It was noted that thanks to the political will of the heads of state, extensive cooperation based on mutual interest and trust has been established between the two countries. “The Joint Declaration on the Establishment of Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People’s Republic of China”, adopted during the meeting of President Ilham Aliyev with Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping within the framework of the SCO summit in Astana in July this year, opened a new page in relations between the countries. Cultural cooperation occupies a special place between the countries. The Minister, also touching upon his visit to China in September 2023, emphasized the importance of the meetings held for fruitful cooperation.
Li Chun thanked for the warm welcome and expressed satisfaction that the relations between the countries had reached the level of strategic partnership. Information was provided on the Asian Cultural Heritage Alliance (ACHA), which implements 15 programs in various areas. Li Chun noted the importance of the representation of the Azerbaijani side in the specialized structures of ACHA and suggested that our country host the IV conference of the Alliance. He also expressed interest in studying the experience of Azerbaijan in the field of digital monitoring of cultural heritage.
During the conversation, the importance of mutual tours of artists and creative teams of the two countries was emphasized. An exchange of views took place on the development of roadmaps and draft memorandums on cultural cooperation. The relevant draft memorandums were submitted by China to the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan. Li Chun added that it would be good to sign memorandums of cooperation in Beijing next year, and that he would like to see an Azerbaijani gallery in the famous cultural complex of China 798 Art Zone.
In addition, it was noted at the meeting that in November this year, Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), where issues of the role of culture in the context of climate change will be raised, and discussions will be held on the role of culture in environmental protection. It was emphasized that the participation of the Chinese side in this prestigious event will be of great importance.
An exchange of views also took place on other issues of interest to the parties.
