Cure cancer through artificial intelligence

by time news

How can technology help in the effort to find cancer treatment and cure? The “High-tech in traffic jams” podcast hosts Prof. Yanai Ofran, founder and CEO of Biological Design, which deals with a fascinating field called computational biology. Prof. Ofran combines the worlds of data science and biology to help humanity deal with diseases such as cancer.

Computational biology uses data science and artificial intelligence to make decisions. Instead of building experimental hypotheses based on a few data and then verifying or refuting them, computational biology relies on vast databases to make decisions, detect cancer cells and more.

Just as with large databases one can teach an algorithm to identify what is in a particular image, so one can identify causes of various diseases, harm and eliminate harmful proteins and causes of various diseases. Prof. Ofran’s fascinating technology produces “smart proteins” – those that can detect and attack problematic cells.

We also talked about the big differences between start-ups in the field of biotech and start-ups from other fields and how progress is being made there, and also about the opportunities that exist in the field of computational biology – which is, apparently, in its infancy.
