The strike was reportedly announced on behalf of local BJP volunteers against a rally by Islamic organizations in Amravati to condemn the violence in Tripura. Violence erupted when stones were hurled at shops in the Rajkamal Chowk area.
A four-day curfew has been imposed in Amravati following the ensuing violence. Additional Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil issued the order. Police have said the public should not leave their homes without medical attention. Similarly, more than 5 people have been banned. In addition, the internet service in Amravati has been disabled to prevent the spread of violence.
