This literary conference, attended by a group of Moroccan and foreign personalities, particularly African, representing the world of literature, culture and art, as well as young people from different levels and educational backgrounds, was marked by a rich and exciting debate focusing on several cultural issues raised by a number of recent Moroccan literary works, which address the transformations and taboos of society, from different angles.

This literary evening was supervised and hosted by women writers representing different literary trends and genres, such as Loubna Serraj, Meriem Hadj Hamou and Rania Berrada, as well as the writer and academic Abderrazak Benchaâbane and the writer and filmmaker Fouad Souiba.

The discussions also focused on the personal motivations that pushed these writers to think, to undertake and to break into the world of writing.

The discussions concerned works that fall into the category of French-language literature, including the novel “Najat ou la survie” (Rania Barrada), the novel “le porte-poisse” (Fouad Souiba), the novel “Effacer” and the collection of short stories “Fenêtre en clair-obscur” (Meriem Hadj Hamou), and the novel “Sidi Ghrib” (Abderrazak Benchaâbane).

In a statement to MAP, the president of the festival, Mahi Binebine, stressed that this event was full of surprises, which were greatly appreciated by the public, stressing that “the writers participating in this edition managed to carry us away and awaken in us the desire to dream.”

This novelist and artist indicated in this sense that the organizers are now working to prepare the next edition of FLAM, so that it meets the public’s expectations.

In a similar statement, the writer Abderrazak Benchaâbane expressed his joy at the participation of a large number of young people in this event, stressing that this interest and enthusiasm for books contribute to keeping reading and books alive.

“The young people came to participate in the festival because they love books and because they are readers, and every good reader ends up becoming a writer one day,” he insisted.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of FLAM, the general delegate of the festival, Younès Ajarraï, praised the efforts made by all partners to make the activities of this cultural event a success, announcing that the “Giant Dictation” competition, postponed due to weather conditions, will be organized next April.

The closing ceremony was also marked by the presentation of awards to celebrate the literary contributions of a number of young people, as well as a diverse musical concert performed by young people from the Ali Zaoua Foundation.

A true meeting place bringing together writers, thinkers and intellectuals from Africa and its diasporas, FLAM was founded by Mahi Binebine (writer and visual artist), Fatimata Wane-Sagna (journalist), Hanane Essaydi (academic) and Younès Ajarraï (cultural entrepreneur).

Led by the association “We Art africains”, FLAM aims to be an eloquent celebration of African literature and culture.
The programming of this 2nd edition proposed themes included in the scientific and editorial news of Africa, its diasporas and devotes a special place to the reactivation and consolidation of memories and unbreakable links which unite all Africans wherever they are.
