Students must have 75% attendance to appear in regular exams in universities. But in case of girls in Kusat, the decisive decision is that 73 percent attendance is enough for them. It was with the intervention of the SFI-led student union that the university was allowed to give 2 percent extra leave to girls. Female students get leave at the CUSAT campus in Kochi and other campuses directly managed by the university. Kochi University of Science and Technology is implementing menstrual leave from this semester.

Meanwhile, KSU leaders are also claiming that the menstrual leave in Kusat is their achievement. The debate has also heated up when KSU leader Ann Sebastian, who is also a representative of the Cusat University Union, came forward and pointed out that menstrual leave was one of the most important things in the KSU manifesto put forward to face the elections in Cusat. Anne Sebastian has come forward by releasing evidence of the things KSU has done to implement the menstrual leave mentioned in the manifesto through Facebook.
