In the current situation of the country, the pressure to withdraw cash from the bank has increased. As a result, Bangladesh Bank has set a limit for cash withdrawal for the sake of security. Customers will not be able to withdraw cash of more than Tk 5 lakh from the bank from Sunday till further instructions. Bangladesh Bank gave this instruction in an urgent message to the managing directors (MD) of the banks on Saturday (August 31) night.
In the directive, it has been asked to immediately inform Bangladesh Bank if any transaction appears suspicious. Even if a customer cannot withdraw more than Tk 5 lakh in cash, any amount of money can be transferred from bank to bank, from one account to another and digital transaction.
It is known that after the change of government, the pressure of cash withdrawal increased slightly. The pressure to withdraw cash is seen especially from politicians and business families. Bangladesh Bank has decided to discourage the withdrawal of cash so that these funds are not used in any way for terrorist or illegal activities. In continuation of this, the central bank informed the MDs of the banking and financial institutions by fixing the limit of cash withdrawal.
After the change of government, first the limit of cash withdrawal was fixed at Tk 1 lakh, later Tk 2 lakh and Tk 3 lakh respectively. Last week, the central bank had fixed the withdrawal limit of Tk 4 lakh. And this time the withdrawal limit of Tk 5 lakh has been fixed.
