Due to the student movement, public transport in the capital is less. People have to suffer to go to office and court. There is panic among people due to clashes in various places. In such a situation, there were fewer customers in the capital’s banks than on other days. Due to this, there is a decline in bank transactions.
On Sunday (August 4), this information was known after searching the banks of Motijheel, Dilkusha, Paltan, Gulistan areas of the capital.
Bankers said that several buildings were set on fire during the student movement. After that, the situation was relatively calm for a few days, but today a new movement has started. Because of this, the customers did not come to the bank without extreme necessity out of fear. Those who need cash, come for transactions. Moreover, some customers have come to the bank to open regular loans. Customers were hardly present for any accounting work.
A customer named Abul Hossain came from Arambagh to the local office of Sonali Bank. He said, actually everyone is in panic. I work in a private company in Arambagh. I came to the bank for my office money needs.
Shafiqul Islam, manager of Motijheel local office of Sonali Bank, said that there is less public transport on the roads due to the students’ movement. Customers cannot come to the bank whenever they want. Due to this the customer presence as well as transaction volume is less compared to other days. For security reasons, the main gate has been closed and the smaller gate has been kept open. Security measures have been put in place to avoid untoward situations.
He also said that sometimes the sound of procession is heard around. So, for the sake of safety, sometimes I keep the shutter closed, sometimes I open it. For me, the security of the branch comes first. We have also made arrangements so that customers can transact smoothly. There are alternate gates, I open the main gate sometimes.
While speaking at Islami Bank’s foreign exchange branch, customer Jamal Hossain said that someone has sent money from abroad, I am coming to the bank to collect it as I need cash. I had to come from Jatrabari to the bank with a lot of fear.
An official of the bank said that public transport has been less since morning due to the student movement. People do not come to the bank out of fear. Hence, transactions are low. Besides, internet speed is slow after noon. Therefore, the necessary activities cannot be carried out. If the movement was peaceful, there would have been no fear among the customers.
