On July 7, the Bulgarian customs administration celebrates its professional holiday. On this day 145 years ago, the first customs offices were established after the Liberation of Bulgaria.

By Decree No. 2 of Prince Alexander I of Battenberg on July 7, 1879, the customs and customs offices of the Principality of Bulgaria were established. This administrative act occurred immediately after the appointment of the first Bulgarian post-liberation government with Decree No. 1 of July 5.

A number of prominent Bulgarians work in customs, among them Zahari Stoyanov, Nikola Obretenov and others. During its first years, the administration went through many transformations. Subsequent changes follow the historical periods in the construction of modern Bulgaria.

“Over the years, the Bulgarian customs administration has gone through many historical changes – from the first Customs Law to today, when we are part of the EU Customs Union. But the mission of the customs administration is unchanged and will remain so – to protect the interests of the state, society and economy of Bulgaria and the EU. In periods of transformation, this mission is even more responsible, because the activity of revenue administrations is decisive for the financial stability and prosperity of the state.

I believe in the high professionalism of the Bulgarian customs administration and I am convinced that the “Customs” Agency will cope with the new goals and challenges. I thank each of you who carry out their tasks with energy and competence”, says the director’s greeting to the employees of the “Customs” Agency Georgi Dimov.
