Flu Shot Rollout Begins Alongside New Respiratory Syncytial Virus Vaccine

The annual rollout of flu shots has begun, along with the introduction of a new respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine. CVS Pharmacy, in partnership with Longs Drugs in Hawaii, is now offering flu vaccines and the new RSV vaccines for individuals ages 60 and older at locations nationwide.

CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic are providing multiple flu vaccine options, including the adjuvanted and higher dose vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for seniors. Appointments for vaccinations can be conveniently scheduled through CVS.com or the CVS Pharmacy app. Alternatively, patients can walk into a CVS Pharmacy and request a vaccination seven days a week.

In addition to CVS Pharmacy, The Queen’s Health System is hosting two drive-thru flu and RSV vaccination events for the community. These events will be held on Sunday, September 10 and Sunday, September 24, and no appointment is needed.

The first event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Queen’s Physicians Office Building 3, patient dropoff area, located at 550 S. Beretania St. in Honolulu. The second event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Queen’s Medical Center-West Oahu Sullivan Center on 91-2141 Fort Weaver Road.

During these events, Queen’s will be offering the high-dose flu vaccine recommended for individuals ages 65 and older. The RSV vaccine, on the other hand, is recommended only for those ages 60 and older. Patients attending the events should bring their IDs and insurance cards.

It’s important to note that only individuals ages 11 and older will be eligible to receive vaccinations at the Queen’s events.

The CDC strongly recommends that everyone aged six months and older receive a flu vaccine every year to prevent the flu and its potentially serious complications.
